Every year a few remarkable privately-owned Maine gardens are featured – the life work of passionate, dedicated and remarkably talented gardeners. This year The Garden Conservancy goes to beautiful Bar Harbor. They are partnering with the Beatrix Farrand Society to open several of the loveliest gardens on Mt. Desert Island, Maine, including Garland Farm. It will be a weekend rich in gardens, landscape design history, and garden preservation. That Saturday, July 27, garden historian Judith Tankard, our Open Days regional representative and a longtime member of the Garden Conservancy’s Society of Fellows, has organized an all-day seminar at the College of the Atlantic, also on Mt. Desert Island, on the restoration of the gardens of famous landscape architect Beatrix Farrand (1872 – 1959). Farrand’s last garden was at Garland Farm. The seminar is being presented by the Beatrix Farrand Society and co-sponsored by the Garden Conservancy. For more information contact: www.opendaysprogram.org
